I looked at the list and - I agree with it, at least the first choice. Istanbul is indeed a great solo city!
I just came back from there last week - and I felt perfectly safe the entire time. I went out at night by myself, and the greatest danger I faced were over-enthusiastic carpet salesmen or restaurant touts.
I went to the Turkish baths as well - what a great way to spend the evening before setting off for some of that delectable food!
